[Midtown] Was that more than lightning?

I'm at 38th and Southwest Traffic way. Just heard lightning with a loud report, but the weird thing is it was followed by some very intense rumbling, the glass on my shelves was rattling with more intensity than the initial report. Did something just happen?

Likely just thunder. It’s usually louder and more shaky when it’s cool out. The sound travels differently when it’s cold out.

Oh, wow! This is most likely it. I had no idea sound refraction is temperature dependant, very interesting!

I learned about how sound travels in different temperatures after moving into my apartment and noticing when I would hear neighbors and the bar next door more clearly in different times of the year.

I didn’t either until a couple of years ago when some of my neighbors texted me the same thing you just posted basically. Crazy loud and shaky thunder.

It sounded like a building collapsed!

That was some crazy thunder. We’re near Gilham Park and there were car alarms going off after it hit. Shook the whole apartment building too, our poor cats looked so scared!

I'm at I'm just up from the park by the Nelson and haven't heard anything more than low rumbles all night.

Really? That’s so wild! There was just that one roll of thunder last night that came out of nowhere (it was barely even storming at the time) and got crazy loud. We’re across the park from the Nelson, so I wonder if the sound waves just refracted a different way off the hill or something. Thunder is fascinating lol

I’m at 31st and Broadway and didn’t hear/ feel anything out of the ordinary. Crazy how a few city blocks can experience such differences.

Nah...few city blocks didn't make a difference on that one. This post was at 8:05p and I have a text message at 8:03p that I sent to a friend a block over to see if she felt/heard it. Shook the hell out of my house. I live near 75th Street...I heard/felt the same thing as the op. Crazy.

Rattled our windows and shook the floors over by Costco. Big lightning bigger thunder.

Happens every other year in the rural areas, did you hear the crackling noise before the weird pop?
