Pete Alonso nickname conspiracy (Polar Bear vs Pistol Pete)

I’ve seen the media push heavily for the Polar Bear nickname. It sounds dumb and clumsy but I know why. First off: MERCH. The Mets can just slap an Alonso jersey on a cute little polar bear teddy and they’ll sell like hot cakes. Secondly: they don’t want to promote guns in any fashion and wanna avoid any potential controversy.

Let’s not fool ourselves, Pistol Pete is the best nickname. I can’t even hear “The Polar Bear” with a straight face. Even though I can kind of see it in his anatomy.
