6 month progress post

Hello again r/gainit. A year ago I made this post asking for advice on the beginners program I picked.

It’s crazy to think a year ago I couldn’t even squat the bar. Thanks to everyone on this subreddit for motivating me.

I started going 3 days a week, only doing compound exercises (see post I made a year ago linked above for more details). After a month or so I started adding a body weight exercise to each day.

After another month of that I felt like I was ready to switch it up. At this point I started enjoying going to the gym and the 25 minute workout didn’t suffice for me anymore. I switched to PHUL (4x a week) but due to a labor intensive job I didn’t gym as often as I would have liked. As I was always on my feet, I tended to skip leg days quite a bit.

That all came to an end when I quit the job to focus more on uni (and myself). I went to see a personal trainer (free session) who recommended I’d try to hit every body part twice a week.

For the past 5-6 months I have been running this program:

Monday: legs (strength)

Tuesday: upper body, including arms (strength)

Wednesday: rest

Thursday: legs (hypertrophy)

Friday: push (hypertrophy)

Saturday: pull (hyperthrophy)

Sunday: rest

Abs on leg days.

This is how my lifts changed: (3x5)

Bench: 45lbs —> 135lbs

Squat: 0lbs —> 155lbs

Deadlift 45lbs —> 145lbs

All in all I’m very happy with my progress. Working out has made me a more confident person in general, helped a ton with my mental health and I can’t believe I didn’t start earlier.

Thanks for reading and feel free to ask more!
