Best lifestyle change!
First time poster, so I apologize for formatting issues.
Some background: Type 1 Diabetic since 19. Never was in shape, but never extremely overweight until after I began insulin treatment. 5'4" F
It took me a decade to finally get my act together with lowering the amount of carbs I was taking in. I was giving myself close to 60 units of insulin a day for 3 meals, not including my hourly basal. (For those not familiar, that's an insane amount of insulin.) Obviously I ended up putting on a lot of weight. I tried going low carb, but I was hungry all the time. I could not figure out how people could survive on so little! Well, come to find out when I got rid of all the carbs, I wasn't replacing anything that I could use as energy. I was tired and hungry, so I gave up, and fell back into my high carb ways. I watched in sadness as the scale just kept increasing. My last straw was when I hit 199. There was no way in hell I was going to allow myself to cross that threshold. My boyfriend and I had already researched a bit into keto and we decided to start our journey together. I need a buddy in these types of changes and my bf has been the best support. I'm now entering my 4th month on keto and I am proud to say I am down 22 lbs, and my A1C is down from 9 to a 6.5 (Yay!). This is great, not only for my weight, but I've gone from using 80+ units of insulin a day to around 20 max! This is the best thing. I appreciate everyone's encouraging posts on here, and I am so glad I found this lifestyle that is sure to lengthen my time here on earth. Not brave enough for progress pics of me, but here's my graph.
