Magazine Extension Master List?

Howdy! I've been looking into purchasing some magazine extensions, but besides increase in number of rounds per mag, there seems to be bet little data on magazine extensions.

I propose either here or somewhere else, we talk about

  1. Personal experience

  2. What is included when purchasing (is it just a base plate? Is there a stronger spring include?)

  3. Whether they involve permanently modifying the magazine

If anyone is willing to add anything to this, thank you ahead of time!

I bought a Hyve +3 for my 19 a while back, definitely not doing that again. The magazine now fails to lock the slide back reliably. I think it may have to do with spring not having enough tension, but when I emailed Hyve they couldn`t pin point what the issue was and suggested I go out on my own and get another magazine spring. I had to cut the tabs off of the bottom of the magazine and remove the baseplate.

Hyve mag extensions do that. I've heard this complaint about Hyve extensions many times but they don't seem to be doing anything to fix it. I had the same issue with my Glock 23 after adding the extensions. Taran Tactical ships their extensions with new springs to compensate for the extra space. To fix the issue with the Hyve extension, get some Wolff +10% mag springs. They sell them on Ebay. I know it sounds like a pain in the ass, but it will fix the problem.

Edit: I looked it up...part #75373

I haven’t used any on anything but a 43, however I’ve used like 5 different ones for a 43. TTI is far and beyond the best choice. Solid construction, easy install, no modification to the magazine needed. The only downside is that if you run a grip plug you will have to modify it. The base plate is held on by a pin that will get pushed down when you insert the mag. All I did was take my wood burner and melt a hole where the pin would be.

Second favorite is the Vickers. It is solid, just too bulky imo. Same as above except no modification of anything required.

Strike industries makes a good extension. It’s ergonomic, it’s just ugly as fuck. It took away from the concealability though, which was enough for me to ditch it.

As the other guy said, Hyve gave me issues too. I never had ftf but it wouldn’t ever lock my slide back.

Not really an extension, but ETS makes an 8 round (I think) mag that’s still a flush fit. I’ve had no issues with them, but sometimes the rounds will bind up when I’m loading them. They’re strictly range mags, so they serve their purpose and I think they’re like 15 bucks.

Magguts makes a good kit. I don’t know about the install but I’ve used mags that were converted and they fed just fine. Price seems a bit steep to me for what you get. I’ve read you can stack them with some mag extensions to get even more capacity, but I wouldn’t personally fuck with it.

Hope that helps.

The only mag extensions I’ll personally endorse are the Glock +2 plates.

I’ve heard good things about the TTI ones, but $43 + tax and title is a little much for me.
