Is it better to apply later in the cycle with a better mcat or earlier with a worse one?

As the title suggests I’m at a crossroads. My mcat practice exams haven’t been going as planned and won’t be able to reschedule, I would have to void and retake sometime in mid to late July. My questions is would it be too late to apply this cycle? Should I just take my lesser score and apply earlier or should I study more and apply later. Would a July mcat be too late for MD cycles? Can provide more information on stats if needed, but gpa is lower, EC’s are pretty average so I’m assuming I need a stronger mcat.
