Reading a book in my backyard, and this little guy came chirping to my feet. What bird is this?
I don't know what to do with it. I mean i guess i need to take care of him/her. She/he can almost fly, but not quite. Its possible that he could actually fly but damaged his wing somehow. The end of his right wing has a little bit of blood there, i guess injured in the drop. Theres a big tree from my neighboors side, and he could fell from there, not sure this happened in about 8:30 in the night, can't see anything. Tried to look for worms, couldn't find any, but i found a baby snail, extra small. Gave it to him but he didn't wanted to eat.
Question is how do i care for him? I put her in a shoebox with napkins shaped up to be like a nest.
Update: kind user Great_Horned_Owl_ has identified the bird as a northern cardinal ( upon google-ing, i confirm that there is a red bird exactly like that around my house) Most of you advised to just leave him be where i found him.
After a second try he ate the slug and early this morning i gave him another, he was hungry... Gave him 2 drops of water with an extra small straw.
I decided its best if i just put him back and the parents will come for him. And what do you know? When i go out, i see another one in the backyard! Slightly different color, but the same bird. That one was really agile and he run away.
Then i said my goodbyes and set him free.
Thanks for everybody who helped. :)
