To Game of Thrones readers awaiting the next book, I have a recommendation
Please leave other suggestions that readers of GoT would enjoy.
My suggestion: Shogun by James Clavell.
I can’t recommend this book enough if you loved the Song of Ice and Fire books. I am 100 pages in and I am hooked. Set in feudal Japan, it has everything (except fantasy) GoT has. A huge cast of characters, all of which are shades of gray. None are pure good, or pure evil; they are believable humans with believable and unexpected actions. The violence and brutality is all there except with samurai. The beauty in the writing is there. The complicated story of intertwining families of lords and peasants all contributing to the overall plot, with that desire of rising themselves and family in status, nobility , and rank. To tie it all together, it is the length of a GoT book, with all the immersion, emotion, and addicting page turning found in the books as well. I recently was recommended this as someone who is starving for the next book in GoT. I have to spread the word since someone might need this as much as I did. It’s considered a favorite for many people, and I was surprised I hadn’t heard of it. I have not been this excited for a story in a long, long time. Please, read this book if it appeals to you. I would not be surprised if this becomes the next big tv show as well.
Edit: I originally thought it was a series, but it turns out it’s part of an “Asian Saga” where each book is a different story set in a different time. This is the first in the saga.
