LPT: You can freeze all 3 of your credit reports for free, greatly hindering any attempts to steal and use your identity for credit until you temporarily or permanently lift the freeze.

I'm sure this has been posted before, but I only just discovered this fact myself, and someone else out there may benefit as well. You can freeze all three of your major credit reports simply by going to all three websites and filling out a <1 min form. SAVE THE PIN, as you'll need it to temporarily lift the freeze if you ever desire to use your credit for a loan, etc.

It may not prevent all identity theft, but it certainly helps.
