I am an ordinary Joe born and raised in China, post-Tiananmen massacre era. AMA
I was born in the early 90s, and received full 16 years of education in China. Sorry for my not perfect English.
I was the model student in my youth, the most loyal believer of Chinese Communist Party. When I was in junior high school, I was the first batch of students to join [Chinese Communist Youth League](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communist_Youth_League_of_China) . Becoming a member at the first year, first semester of takes dedication. I showed my love for the CCP and my country to teachers, wrote numerous of “thought report" to tell the party how I studied communism etc. You got the idea, I was in deep brainwash state.
When I was in second year of high school, my classmates told me about Tian An Men. I did not believe them at first, and argued with them, could not believe how cynical they were. Then, I tried to dig some information by myself. The more I read, the more I doubted myself. After a long soul searching, world rebuilding, I disbelieve CCP now. No government can kill defend-less people without consequences.
At the last year of high school, teachers treated my differently because I was no longer a model student. They even called my parents about my abnormal behavior.
When I was in senior year of college, I stole my CCYL certificate from school office, ripped it, changed my political status (gvnm. records everybody's political status) from Youth league member to normal civil. This is the proudest thing I have ever done.
I don't remember Tiananmen Massacre because I was not born yet, But we should all remember that event, remember the cost and remember those young people who believed a brighter future for China. They were at the same age as mine now.
