Unmappable rings?
I've encountered a couple of rings that I've had difficulty mapping and was wandering if there are any tricks I'm missing?
I'm not talking about the disappearing hotspots bug, but rings that are so far out from their planet that you can't hit them with a probe. Even moving to the extreme limit of the scanner, I couldn't hit them. And if I moved out to the ring itself the scanner wouldn't let me fire at all. One example is at Crucis Sector EL-Y C23 3 b ring Icy
So is there something I'm missing or are these truly unmappable?
On a related note, I have found that sometimes even if the targeting indicator says "miss" you can still hit a ring. This is good for those transparent rings, though it sometimes takes several shots and I found one I was never able to map even after several dozen attempts. That one I couldn't see at all, and flew through, in, and around everywhere it might have been without being pulled out of supercruise. The only reason I think there is one there is because both the System Map/Info panel and EDDB show three for that planet and I mapped the only two I could find. This was at Panopi C 4 c ring Icy which, even if it can be found, may be unmappable as above due to starting half a million km out (and extending to a whopping 1.8 million km). This may well be the most realistic ring I've (not)seen! LOL
