Why is there a large population of sci-fi interested people located/shows based in the pacific northwest?

IDK if maybe this is just me, but I've recently noticed that there are a lot of shows based in the Pacific northwest up to Vancouver as well as a lot of people interested in sci-fi shows in that area. I was just wondering if there was any particular reason why or if it just happened to be coincidence.
