Anyone else see this sFirefox browser operation?

Scenario...

I do a search in my firefox address bar and it brings me to a list of google results. I click on one link to go look at it, and then realize it isn't what I was looking for, so I go to hit "back" to go back to the search results, but I can't because it's greyed out, I also can't hit backspace either because the browser thinks this is the first page I started on.

Same if I am browsing and on a page where I can go back to my last 30 pages... I do a search and it basically wipes out my entire back browsing ability...

is there a weird new functionality or setting somewhere for this?
