Do people really “find themselves” traveling solo? I’m about to buy a one way ticket to Greece

Question

I hit a breaking point today. Last year at this time I was married. I’m a 25 year old male whom in the last year got divorced, found a girlfriend who was studying in the US, quit my job and got a job in Norway. I’ve been living here for about a month. She’s leaving soon for work a few hours away. I don’t really have friends yet. I haven’t started work because of my work permit still needing another 4-6 weeks for approval. Honestly, I feel extremely lost. I don’t know who I am anymore. I’m definitely depressed without my friends, family, and everything else I know and love from the US. Every day especially not being busy is a struggle for me. I question constantly what I’m doing with my life and what my purpose is... which brings me to what I’m doing next week.

My main reason for moving to Europe was the accessibility to travel around Europe while I’m young. I decided earlier today I wanted to go to Greece for a week and just explore, but now that I have 4-6 weeks (my work permit appt was today), I’m just going to pack my travel backpack and get a one way ticket. I’m going to test myself and just figure most of it out when I get there. I’ll likely get a train pass for traveling to other countries, but right now, my plan is to just pack my essentials and go. I don’t have a list of places I want to see specifically, I just know I want to go about 4-5 weeks and jump from hostel to hostel.

I guess what I came here for is any tips on a situation like this, and if anyone did something similar because they were in a hole in their life, and if it helped them. Sorry for a semi sappy feely post at the start, I’m just in a pretty low spot and I’m going insane with nothing to do here. I need a challenge and an adventure.

Edit: thank you for all the responses. I’m working through reading them now but I wanted to clarify because I think my post isn’t worded correctly. I’m not looking for a magic happy pill by traveling. I moved here so that I could experience another culture and spend my younger years running around to difference countries and seeing the world. I guess I’m not entirely sure what I meant by this post, but I’m definitely a bit lost right now and maybe I’m wondering if the perspective and confidence I gain from traveling around the world will equip me with mental tools needed to handle this transition into expat life a bit better, if that makes any sense.
