Why are bars so extremely expensive?

I live in Europe and I visited Hong Kong last week and I decided to go for a beer in a bar.

A quick google search led me to Lan Kwai Fong district and I took the metro there.

Once arrived I entered a pretty basic bar, also keep in mind this was my first night out in HK, and I asked for the menu.

Turned out it was between 70-80 HK$ for a beer. I was shocked that's almost 8-9 euro for a simple beer I've never seen that before, except a luxury rooftop bar but this was just a basic pub with unbearable music, wooden floor and it was empty and the interior looked cheap.

I proceeded to visit Hardrock Café, and multiple bars but it seems like they all have similar pricing. I ended up at 7/11 where I saw multiple people drinking outside in front of the entrance.

Is this really nightlife in Hong Kong, paying up to 9 euro for a simple beer? That must suck hard. I don't understand, can somebody explain this to me.

I ended up not spending any money there except at 7/11 and even though I could afford it. I'm just not going to pay 9 euro for a simple beer, that's a scam.

A beer in my city costs between 2.50-3.00 Euro or 20-25 HK$
