Solaris, the solar-powered protector

Hero Forge: Reborn

Name: Solaris

Full Name: Raymundo "Solaris" Guerra

Age: 32

Affiliation: Lumerico

Base of Operations: [Central America]

Backstory: Ray ("Raymundo") is a former member of the Caribbean Defense Coalition, who retired after the Omnic Crisis to work as an engineer for LumeriCo. With billions disenfranchised across Central and South America, Ray would play an essential part in the post-war reconstruction process by designing a revolutionary solar power system that would make electricity affordable to the masses.

But progress does not come easy. The highly valuable materials used in the construction of solar farms needed safeguarding, and military contractors pressured LumeriCo to find a weaponized version of their solar technology. Ray was put in charge of a specialized weapons program to design solar-powered weapons for military use. The fruit of his labor, the Solaris mechanized combat suit, is now ready for field testing. Ray travels the world on LumeriCo's dime, doing good deeds to show off the suit and tracking down the illusive "Sombra".

Appearance: The suit somewhat resembles the Pokemon Regigigas, but the color palette is white with cobalt blue, there is no foliage, and there are extra gadgets and doodads attached.

Role: Tank

Health: 600 (200HP, 400 Shields)

Passive: Photovoltaic. The Solaris suit is equipped with a battery system that it uses to power its various functions. The base charge range goes from 0-100, and it can be "overcharged" up to 200. While the suit has less than 100 power, it slowly gains power over time, similar to Moira's resource bar, going from 0 to 100 in 10 seconds. While the suit is overcharged, many abilities become more powerful. Solaris builds additional charge whenever he takes damage, with 4 damage equating to 1 point of charge.

Primary: Sunbeam. A traditional beam weapon, similar to Zarya or Symmetra's weapons, but consumes battery instead ammo. Deals 90 damage per second normally, and 130 damage per second while overcharged. 15m range.

Secondary: Sunray. A quasi-railgun weapon, it works like a hitscan version of Mei's alternate fire without headshots. It deals 75 damage normally (no falloff), and ramps up to 120 damage while overcharged. Firing Sunray consumes 20 charge.

Ability 1: Sunscreen. Solaris toggles an optical camouflage field for his teammates. While this ability is active, there is a 8m radius of effect around Solaris. If an outer edge is between an enemy and one of Solaris' allies, the ally is invisible to that enemy. Solaris cannot be targeted by enemy LoS effects (Hack, Discord, etc.) while channeling this ability. This ability drains battery while active, with 100 charge buying 8 seconds of sunscreen. During overcharge, this ability grants CC immunity to Solaris and allies in the radius. It is visually represented by a barrier-like color with a strong heat haze effect.

Ability 2: Shock Absorber. Solaris diverts power to the suit's defensive functions. For 6 seconds, or until all charge has been depleted, all damage is dealt to the battery instead of Solaris himself at a 3 damage to 1 charge ratio. This also immediately starts the shield regen process. This ability is on a fairly long 15 second cooldown, starting after the effect ends. No overcharge effect. Taking damage during this ability does not build charge.

Jump/Crouch (in air): Sunrise/Sunset. Solaris uses 30 battery to rapidly ascend or descend through the air. Think of it like a vertical Tracer blink.

Ultimate: Solar Array. Eight panels fold out from Solaris' back and unleash powerful rays that deal damage to enemies. All 8 rays point with the crosshair, dealing 170 damage per second if all 8 hit. However, this ability deals 350 damage per second to barriers, and charge rapidly builds up while the channel is active.

Design Notes: I'm personally not entirely sure if this would be a main tank or an off tank, but I love the concept so I'm sticking with it. This is designed to be a more skill-intensive tank ala Wrecking Ball, requiring both hitscan aim and resource management. The Sunscreen effect is designed to emulate the oft-requested smokescreen ability, with a bonus against CC thrown in. Note that sunscreen does NOT conceal Solaris, but Solaris can gain charge while the ability is active, so when enemies focus him down he gets even more time to keep the ability up. The ability also does not conceal projectiles, barriers, or deployables, so heroes that don't leave a strong visual cue utilize this much better. The rest of the kit is just self mobility/sustain to add more versatility to when Solaris can be effective.

Voice Lines/Interactions

Ultimate: "Here comes the sun!"/"¡Aquí viene el sol!"

Killing several people in short succession: "This beatdown brought to you by LumeriCo!"

When picked: "Solaris, brightening your day!"

Respawn: "I'll put that down in the test results."

To Sombra: "You've caused an awful lot of problems for us, young lady!"

Sombra: "What are you going to do? Attacking your teammates isn't good PR, is it?"

Symmetra: "We don't need your help here."

To Symmetra: "Really? The mess you left in Rio says otherwise."

Torbjorn: "Do you mind if I take a look at that suit of yours?"

To Torb: "Sorry, you'll have to sign an NDA first."

Mercy: "Don't you think exposing yourself to all that solar radiation is a bit ... dangerous?"

To Mercy: "Eh, we'll work out any kinks before beta testing."

To Reinhardt: "That suit is so twenty years ago! How about something newer, sportier?"

Reinhardt: "Sportier? This is a battle, not a fashion show!"

Killing Winston/Tracer: "Who needs Overwatch when LumeriCo lights the way?"

Killing Sombra: "Shadows fade before the light of justice! Man, that sounded cool!"

Killing Pharah: "Try not to fly so close to me next time."

Anubis, Junkertown, Oasis, Numbani, and Havana: "Nice, strong sunlight here. I could work on my tan..."

Dorado: "This place is a mess! No wonder things are falling apart."

Horizon Lunar Colony: "Man, imagine the rays you could catch out here!"
