Who’s Afraid of Arabic Numerals? | dishonest Islamic apologetics from the New York Times
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/04/opinion/arabic-numerals.html
The dishonesty is that while he describes the Islamic golden age in glowing terms, reminding us (correctly) that we owe it a debt of gratitude, he makes little mention of what brought it to an end: Islam itself, in the form of an influential man named Al Ghazali, who got rid of what was at that time a new modernity and forced everyone to go back to studying ONLY the Koran.
But the article's author prefers to be mysterious:
FTA:
Exactly why this tragic closing of the Muslim mind happened, and how it can be overturned, is the biggest question facing Muslims today. We should not lose more time through denials and blame games.
That isn't true. It is well-known what brought modern Islam to an end: OLD Islam; the words of the prophet himself brought it to an end through an avatar named Al-Ghazali.
