How Armor leak could work in SS

Discussion

With the Direct tomorrow I recently had the idea of how Armor could work in SS. I just wanna type it out now so I could see how close I got to the actual concept if the leak is true.

Its a simple idea, but basically there are two types of Armor for each Pokemon type: Offensive Armor (Sword) and Defensive Armor (Shield).

How Offensive Armor works is the Pokemon is holding an item that boosts the power of a certain type of move. For example, if a Pokemon is holding the item "Sword of Rock," it will be able to get a 1.5X multiplier on Rock-type moves if the user isn't a Rock-type. Essentially the Pokemon gets a second or third STAB option while sacrificing the use of an item. If a Pokemon holds an Offensive Armor item and is already the same type as the Sword being held, then the STAB bonus gets multiplied to 2.25X (1.5 X 1.5), or gets increased to 2X (same as Adaptability); whichever is better for game balance.

  • So a Lugia can basically do STAB Hydro Pump if it's holding a Sword of Water, and Thundurus can bring even more powerful Thunderbolts and Volt Switches if it's holding a Sword of Electric.

How Defensive Armor works is the Pokemon is holding an item that adds another type to the user, but the user does not receive any STAB bonuses from that added type or change the damage taken from entry hazards. For example, if a Pokemon is holding the item "Shield of Flying," the Flying-type will be added if the user isn't already a Flying-type, or the Flying-type replaces the user's secondary type; whichever is better for game balance. If a Pokemon holds a Defensive Armor item and is already the same type as the Shield being held, then the damage taken from resistances are further halved and the damage taken from weaknesses are further doubled.

  • So a Gengar holding a Shield of Normal would take no damage from Ghost-type attacks because it's now part Normal-type, thus eliminating one weakness.

  • And a Pinsir holding a Shield of Bug would take 4X damage from Fire, Flying, and Rock-type attacks, and 0.25X damage from Grass, Fighting, and Ground-type attacks.

Thoughts?
