According to Meltzer, WWE and AAA are the only promotions he knows that uses "Card subject to change" as an excuse to promote something they already know they aren't going to do
Nothing specifically recent but in light of last night's RAW it came flooding back to my mind. They advertised all week and then most of RAW "LESNAR'S CASHING IN TONIGHT YOU GUYS. IT'S REALLY HAPPENING" when in reality it didn't and it never was.
I knew before RAW it wasn't happening, many of my friends knew, and the fact we know ahead of time that WWE's promoting something they won't give us is not a good thing. Look at six months ago, WWE knew long in advance that they weren't going to do Lesnar/Strowman at the Royal Rumble, but they kept advertising it and hyping it up until about two weeks before the show. Why? Because they figured Strowman/Lesnar would sell more tickets than Balor/Lesnar.
Then a few months before that the exact same story with promoting Alexa Bliss vs. Trish Stratus at Evolution. They knew the whole time that they were going to make it Bliss/James vs. Trish/Lita (and even then Bliss got replaced last minute due to injury) but they figured the singles match would sell better
Hell, go back 20 years when they ran over Steve Austin at Survivor Series 1999 when they knew for weeks that Austin wasn't going to be able to wrestle HHH and The Rock for the WWF title. But they knew if they kept saying he was going to then that was going to move those PPV buyrates.
I'm not sure how accurate Meltzer is on this as I'm sure other examples in other companies exist, but it really is a problem in WWE. Not even mentioning that a lot of the matches officially announced on wwe.com and WWE's social media of matches happening on RAW or Smackdown never end up happening either. "Card subject to change" is supposed to mean "If someone gets hurt at the last minute or some unforseen circumstance makes it literally impossible to deliver what we advertised" it's not a free pass to promote whatever you want
Now I don't know about AAA, but I sincerely hope it's not this blatant
