Council bulky waste uplift

A bit of a rant and a heads up to anyone looking to book a special uplift from the council. We bought a new mattress and have requested an uplift of the old one (which is currently taking up half our living room), and have been given a collection date for 7 weeks away!

When I got the email I rang them just to double check there hadn't been a mistake, but they explained that they're massively backed up at the moment and there are long waits for everyone. The lady was very apologetic and said they're trying to sort something out as lots of people are unhappy.

It's ironic that I reported flytipping the other day (someone had dumped a mattress in an alley, blocking it completely) and they told me they'd collect it within 5 working days (apparently that sort of thing is handled by a different department). So if you dump your stuff in the street, it'll get picked up within days for free, but if you want to do it the responsible way, you pay (albeit only £5) and then wait nearly two months.

There's no mention of the long wait on the council website, so a heads up in case anyone was planning on booking an uplift.
