Emotional blackmail

My partner has just given birth, it was a bit early at 36+2 and we’ve had to stay in hospital to monitor breastfeeding and blood glucose, saying we need three readings over 2.6. The next day we hadn’t achieved this and he isn’t breastfeeding feeding that well, however he was taking in the breastmilk from a syringe, so he was still getting some and his lowest blood sugar was 2.3.

so they said about introducing formula milk as a top up. We didn’t really want to use formula milk but understood sometimes it’s necessary, so we said about using the soy based formula, although not vegan, it’s the closest we could get and the doctor disregarded this and said that they would not prescribe soy milk as it messes with the babies hormones. I’ve heard this before but have also done a lot of research into oestrogen and how plant oestrogen is not the same as animal oestrogen and I told her this and said I would be interested to see where they got their information from. The doctor responded in somewhat an aggressive manner to which I told them it was unnecessary. They then went on to say that unless I have a medical background she suggests I take her advice (I’m a student children nurse- if I was qualified I would have been more inclined to say I did.) she also said that if we don’t listen she’s concerned our baby may get brain damage or epilepsy. I just feel emotionally black mailed and almost bullied, I never claimed to know everything, but I don’t think they did either consider the evidence they bought to me was from a website whereas my evidence was from randomised controlled trials.

Am I being unreasonable? Sorry for the rant, I feel anxious and let down. Thanks for reading.
