Do you have a fleet, or a single ship?

I bounce around from having a small fleet of dedicated ships to a single multi-purpose ship and back again. At one point I had a Vulture for combat, a Type 7 for freight, an Asp Explorer for, well, exploring, and so on. Then I sold them off and just flew the Asp, fitting it out as needed for whatever role I was interested in at the time.

I'm thinking about liquidating the fleet again, and just running a Krait Mk2. If you roleplay in the game, how does that impact your ship choice and quantity?
