What happened to Roland Joffe?
His first two movies were Academy Award winners: The Killing Fields, and The Mission. He was hailed as the next Coppola, or perhaps the successor to David Lean.
Then... his next movie was intellectually interesting but low on drama: Fat Man and Little Boy. He succeeded this with a Patrick Swayze vehicle City of Joy, and then did... Super Mario Bros (having his name removed from the project).
Mostly TV series and unremarkable movies ever since. I didn't even realize he was still making movies!
