My NSister went through my Instagram

I don’t post selfies. I only post my art and occasionally cool things I find. I’m an artist by trade, went to school for it and graduated with high honors. I like to think I’m pretty good.

So, the other day, nsister came over to my house for dinner. It was her birthday, so I let her to what she wanted, since it was her day.

After dinner, while everyone was gathered around, she took out her phone and pulled up my Instagram. Then she showed a painting I had spent a really long time on. “This is really good! It’s one of your best!”

It made me really happy to hear that from her, honestly. But then she says, “it’s way better than your cartoons and anime stuff. You should stop drawing those.”

“Sis, I’m going to draw what I want to draw.”

“Yeah, but me and mom agree that they’re garbage.” Then she pulls up one, “like, this one is bad.” Then another, “this one sucks,” another “this one is stupid.” On and on, about 15 drawings. “Why do you even bother?”

Me, feeling like shit: “because those realism painting take forever, and the ‘cartoony’ ones are just sketches. I can pump those out in an hour.”

“Well, you should stop. No one likes them.” Then she stopped talking to me and changed the subject, because she always has to have the last word.

I don’t feel like drawing at all anymore. I was already in a depressive state (I have chronic depression) and this didn’t help to motivate me to get out of it.
