Can we stop celebrating the fact we've spent nothing and got so far (i.e. the post comparing squad costs)?
I'm so sick of this shite being peddled around the sub the past couple of days. What we did was fucking impressive but doing shit like comparing how much each squad was is just dumb. I'm referring to this post: https://old.reddit.com/r/coys/comments/bwh6b4/i_was_going_to_compare_the_transfer_fees_of_the/
Sure, it's a devastating loss and that penalty was harsh but the absolute shite that's being thrown around this sub the past couple of days including the post comparing transfer fees is stupid as hell. We're literally doing anything and everything we can to soften the blow of the loss and wanking ourselves over the fact we've spent nothing and still made it so far. These posts don't provide any context and takes everything at face value in order to make ourselves feel better. Let's look at that dumb post that's 96% upvoted.
First, half if not more of Liverpool's starting lineup was purchased after transfer prices fucking blew up and hyper-inflated while it's not the same case with us. If we look at the lads we bought up to 2 years ago: e.g. Sissoko and Sanchez who both cost 31M and 40M respectively, we can see that if we actually spent recently, we'd be paying high prices as well. If we got Eriksen in the past 2 years, we sure as fuck wouldn't be paying a mere 12M for him. Half our squad either came from the academy or was bought before the hyper-inflation of fees. Comparing how much each squad costs at face value like this is genuinely just dumb and an poor yet easy way to wipe away the tears.
Second, sure Liverpool's starting XI costs 3-4x ours did but they've also made an absolute killing off selling players. They sold some academy players for some killer amounts recently IIRC and made a fuckton of Coutinho, Sterling etc. They've made fucking 140M off Coutinho alone while our highest recent transfer was Walker for somewhere around 50M. Overall their net spend is still really healthy and is really not that far off from us considering we've done fuck all in the past 2 windows. I strongly doubt they'd blow an odd 150M or so in the last 2 windows if their financial situation wasn't as strong as it is - all the income from selling off players + doing well in CL from buying players from said income which is what we should be doing now as well.
I'm so sick of this wanking ourselves off over the past few days including finding anything and everything to soften the loss, the fact we've spent fuck all has been as a result of us investing in a new stadium which is a good thing but meant our squad took a hit which is still our fault, I don't see why we have to make posts like the one above comparing squad costs to go and rag on Liverpool for spending much more than we did. This also includes the multitude and countless rants being spammed over the past couple of days about how people have grown up and watched us get to where we are today and how we'll come back stronger. Give it a rest lads.
