Angry boyfriend

Bit of background. I’ve been with my boyfriend for 5 years now. We’re a brilliant couple together so on and so forth. He’s always been an angry person but recently it’s been a bit worse and he’s taken it out on me. Yesterday, he was angry because his headphones wouldn’t Bluetooth connect to his (broken) phone. He was throwing the phone, going after it and then throwing it more. I got in the middle because he needed his phone to not be further damage since he needed to hand it in for repairs. I was thrown around a little. Got a bit of a bruise on my arm but I’m fine. He came and apologised quickly.

I’d like some advice on how to support him best. Is there anything I can do to help him that we might not know about?
