One of the answers from yesterday's game was cited in Emma Boettcher's 2016 Master's thesis
After I watched yesterday's game, I started poking around Emma Boettcher's Master's thesis on Jeopardy!, "Predicting the Difficulty of Trivia Questions Using Text Features". As I was looking through, I saw a familiar question used throughout her thesis as a sample question (e.g. page 18):
| Date | Round | Category | Value | Clue | Response |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3/16/11 | Jeopardy! | ACTING OUT | $400 | It's the pointless thing Sarah is doing | comparing apples to oranges |
If you recall, the $600 clue for the PICTURE THE IDIOM category in yesterday's Jeopardy round was a picture of an apple and an orange on a scale, the correct response being "comparing apples and oranges."
It's a pretty incredible coincidence -- audiovisual clue of people comparing apples and oranges with the answer "comparing apples and oranges." That being said, she didn't get the chance to take advantage of her stroke of luck, as James buzzed in first and answered the clue correctly.
