Here is how our offense has performed since we hired John Mallee
I added this as a comment in the pregame thread but it's so pathetic it should get more visibility.
When we hired Mallee going into last year, every. single. player. regressed.
Odubel: 101 wRC+ in 2017 to 97 wRC+ in 2018 (I wonder if his awful final 4 months were a result of him making changes that Mallee suggested instead of sticking with what was working from 5/17-5/18?)
Nick Williams: 113 to 101
Rhys: 159 to 129
Santana: 115 to 109 (coincidentally back up to his usual stats now that he's gone)
Cesar: 112 to 100
JP Crawford is looking like a MLB hitter as soon as he leaves us
Asdrubal Cabrera: 124 wRC+ with Mets, 83 with us
Alfaro: 127 to 96. Oh, he's been a better hitter this year than Realmuto BTW
Kingery: Called up and is the worst hitter in MLB not named Chris Davis
Franco: The only player who improved from 2017 to 2018. It's hard not to improve on a 76 wRC+ though.
Now let's look at the players we acquired this offseason:
Realmuto: 126 wRC+ in 2018, 101 this year
Bryce: 135 to 116
Cutch: 120 to 124 (do my eyes deceive me?!?!)
Segura: 111 to 107
Get a real hitting coach please. How about one who played above single-A and didn't have a .208 career average in the minors?
Edit: Forgot about Altherr: 121 wRC+ in 2017, 75 in 2018, and... uh... -39 in 2019
