Climbing / Bouldering around Hnappavellir and Reykjanes
Halló!
I was wondering if anyone here had much of an interest in bouldering or climbing as I have some questions about crag access.
My partner and I are visiting Iceland in August and, weather permitting, are aiming to go bouldering in Hnappavellir or the area around Keflavik (Reykjanes?).
I have been reading up about the crags on www.klifur.is (which is a great site btw) and will aim to get a guide book and rent pads from https://klifurhusid.is/ . We will be looking to get around in a rental camper van and camp.
-
In general how good is access to the crags? The Klifur.is suggests the ones we have looked at are pretty straightforward to drive and park near but first hand experience is always appreciated, especially if dealing with unmarked roads.
-
In general, is a 4x4 recommended for some of the access roads?
-
Do the crags get busy and how easy would it be to find a crew to climb with?
-
What kind of characteristics can we generally expect from the routes?
-
Any other advice or guidance from local climbers?
