Uniforms of the Red Army at Chernobyl

Hi everyone, Has anybody noticed the striking resemblance of the uniforms/hats that many of the soldiers who are helping clear the site as well as its surroundings (most notably seen in episode 4) have to Great Patriotic War era uniforms? Did the Soviets intentionally keep the same style as it was economical/efficient or because they wanted the Soviet people to have a greater attachment to "that generation"?
