Still horribly confused with Credit Cards on YNAB
Let me get right to it. Every single month, I'm horribly confused on how YNAB handles the my credit card with the budget.
I have all my bank information and credit card accounts entered. The dollar amounts in each account are correct. At the beginning of every month, I "give every dollar a job" from the money that's in my bank currently. I put money in my bank accounts (money I own) into each category (essential and non-essential).
So I'm budgeting for each category with money I already have in the bank. Then, throughout the month, I pay for stuff (gas, subscriptions, food, dates) with my credit card. When each purchase finishes processing, it pops up in the 'accounts' tab in YNAB, and it gets taken out of each of the categories.
Paycheck clears and goes to the 'to be budgeted' category > budget that money for the month > pay for stuff with my credit card(s) > money gets charged to card > credit card syncs with YNAB and takes it out of my budgeted categories.
Now here's the problem: when it comes time to pay for my credit card, I've obviously already budgeted, but when I pay the bill, the amount I paid (the full balance every month) shows up in YNAB as positive and goes to the 'to be budgeted' category.
If I budgeted from money in my bank account already, why is there a separate category for my credit card that adjusts every time a transaction clears? Why is this credit card category OUTSIDE of my other categories? What is going on?! Why is this so confusing?!?!?
