Upcoming Vacation with Parents + Kids

We're going on a wonderful trip to Europe this summer. A few destinations where my partner and I will be on our own, but a majority of the trip will be in a house with a few other couples. Two of which have kids. I don't mind that there will be kids there as these particular couples are very inclusive and not helicopter parents. They'll be bringing childcare and most activities are adult centric.

However, I'm a little worried about how to handle any waves of emotion that small children may bring. I really REALLY don't want to discuss it with anyone or be noticed if I do have to step away. My everyday life is such a comfortable bubble where I have plenty of opportunities to avoid these situations.

Any good coping strategies for being around kids for extended periods of time? I'm thinking I may need a back up plan for stepping away if needed, claiming a headache. Perhaps carving out a few activities for myself like long walks into town, reading, meditating in the morning before the day starts.
