Why don’t we have a veto system any more?

Every time you ask someone at 343, they refuse to answer this question. At this point, I’m just wondering what the community thinks.

I understand why a voting system is bad. I remember playing the same gametypes over and over on Reach, with some gametypes NEVER being played. Not because they were bad, but because the others available were preferred.

But a veto system? It provides valuable feedback. If 1 gametype gets vetoed 5% of the time and another gets vetoed 95% of the time, that should be a pretty clear indication to 343 that either changes need to be made, or the gametype needs to be scrapped. I don’t like dashboarding because it hurts the other players in the lobby, but I don’t want to be force fed a shitty gametype either. Especially when I get it back to back, or something like 3/6 games.

With a veto system, you’re going to play your least favorite gametypes. But it’s going to be rare, because you’re typically only going to get it if another gametype gets vetoed. With a decent size pool of maps and modes, the odds of you getting it are pretty slim.

I know anecdotal experiences and personal preferences are next to irrelevant when it comes to data gathering, but take snowbound in H3, or refuge in h5. I’d veto both of them every single time. But with a system where I’d only get them once or twice a day at most, I’d be (mostly) okay with playing them out. They’re not fun, but they would be refreshing. I wouldn’t be exasperated at the sight of them, and then annoyed while playing them.

If anything, the most frustrating thing here is not even getting a response from 343. If there’s a valid reason why we don’t have vetoing any more, I can accept that. But no communication at all is kinda infuriating at times.

What do you think—why won’t 343 implement a veto system? Do you even want a veto system? Would you prefer a voting system?

Let’s talk.
