Voicemail is stupid - A Short Rant

Why do people still use voicemail? I forgot I didn't have notifications on for voicemail and have far too many messages for me to care about. In my mind it's farrrr easier to text out the information you were going to leave and easier for me to get back to you than to play phone tag. Additionally, there are at least 5 where I can't make out what they are trying to say because of background noise or murmuring, so now I'm not even sure what they want. Do you think we'll get to a point in society where we stop using voicemail. It feels like VCRs to me, an outdated technology that has been surpassed. This is not a thing I wanted to have to try and organize today. /Rant

Edit. I lied. A big reason voicemail and phone calls in general frustrate me is because of all the spam I've gotten over the last 5 months. When I get on average 5 calls a day trying to sell me something I don't want i've become very unlikely to pick up the phone. This is frustrating because some of these things I'd have liked to get back to but when the odds of a unknown number being a waste of my time are so high I've stopped bothering to pick up. I don't think this is going anywhere. Thanks for reading.
