Thinking about buying an 03 Boxster with 137k mi, has an engine that was replaced at 41k mi. What questions should I ask the seller about this? Is this a huge red flag?
The car cosmetically looks to be in great condition. The seller claims to have kept very good records and paperwork of all maintenance that was done.
I ran the carfax and it shows that the engine was replaced at 41k miles just like the seller said at a Porsche dealership. The seller also said the IMS B was replaced. Carfax doesn’t show this but I’m going to call the dealership later today to confirm that was done.
He told me that the paperwork says" customer claims oil leak and noise, towed in" engine replaced warranty. He is the 4th owner of it and did not have the engine replaced under his ownership.
To me it sounds like a positive knowing that there’s effectively less miles on the engine. 90k vs 140k. Also if the IMS has been replaced that’s also a massive plus to me.
Would having substantially more miles on the chassis pose issues later?
I will not be going through anything without a thorough PPI being done. But before I spend the money to have that done, is this a massive red flag?
