Should we remake the subreddit?

09-JUL EDIT: We did it! Now we have to start working!

I would like to reuse this post temporally to maintain the proposed ideas and let anyone else to share new ones!

Let's discuss which ideas should we work on first and how should we do it.

Summary:

  • Create a new discord server.
  • New post format (Offering/seeking), flairs.
  • 1 to 1 / group exchange.
  • Casual conversation posts.
  • Daily topic chat.
  • Community banner/icon.

Hi everyone!

I've been lurking in this subreddit for a while and i feel like it has a lot of more potential than it has.

The problem is that the only Mod we have, u/crh, doesn't look active anymore (If so, please let us know please!).

I don't really know if there is any solution to this or just create another subreddit. I've been thinking that with some organization (Weekly presentation/topic posts in different laguanges, a discord server, flags with the languages we seek/teach...) this subreddit can we really useful and enjoyable for anyone.

Learning languages is something that I really enjoy, learning about other cultures thought their languages, be able to communicate with someone from another country... and we don't have a proper place on reddit.

Please everyone, tell me what you thing about that or your ideas.

PD: English is not my first language as you may noticed haha.

" If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart." Nelson Mandela.

EDIT: Instead of upvote this post, please make a comment (either positive or negatives) about your thoughts so we can see how many people are truly interested and how many people are active. And also don't be scare to use english even if you don't have a good level, or also you can write it in your native language. We all are here to learn!

EDIT 2: This idea is also because they way we are using this subreddit now. There are way to many posts without organization, and all of them are looking for a 1-1 exchange. The most common problem i've seen in this exchanges is to don't have a topic to talk about or just force one (For me, the timezone difference is also a problem sometimes).

I know that making groups to exchange languages cause another kinds of problems (People may only want to learn, and nobody is teaching), but to have a really good partner to exchange languages, we need to forge some sort or friendship first, or a community in this case.

I think this community is bigger than it seems (17.4k members) because as we are now, because the majority of us just look (and don't have any other choice) for any post for our specific interests, so there is no point to subscribe.

06-JUN EDIT: It gonna take some time to request this sub so until then we just can wait.

11-JUN EDIT: nothing from r/redditrequest nor the mod yet.
