How to connect Jabra Elite Active 65t to iPhone and Apple Watch simultaneously?

I have an iPhone 8+ and series 3 Apple Watch. Everything has current firmware and ios updates.

I can't figure out how to get my new Jabra Elite Active 65t earbuds to connect to both through Bluetooth simultaneously. They're connected to my phone and watch, but I have to manually switch between the two to make each work independently. It'll connect automatically to my phone out of the case, then if I want to play something on my watch I have to go into the apps, select Settings > Bluetooth then tap Jabra Elite Active 65t to get it to connect, which then disconnects it from my phone. If I want to listen to something on my phone I have to manually select the earbuds in the Bluetooth settings which will then disconnect them from my watch.
