I played the menagerie the other night within the quest line and I used my only rune then. I've tried playing menagerie again and it says "players do not have access to this activity". Am I missing something? I'm also above 690 LL

You need annual pass to play it
I have the annual pass
Have you tried the usual trouble shooting stuff restart ..verify game ...restart battlenet ?
Without owning annual pass you get to run it once via the quest.
Is this the new annual pass they just announced or the first annual pass? Because I have the first one
Do you have an outstanding step on your “Invitation” quest?
You need to complete "The Invitation"
You also need to purchase the upgrade 'Power and Efficiency I.' I think this is part of the quest anyway.
Oh ok, so I need to get Imperials to upgrade the chalice?
Yeah. You get them from the weekly bounties and from the Menagerie Triumphs.
After that, you can open the chests at the back of the Barge. There's about 15, and each costs 5K Glimmer to open and gives 150 Imperials and 1 Rune.
After that, I recommend buying Power and Efficiency II if you can. It allows you to buy the consumable that gives you a chance to get 500 Imperials from the chest at the end of a Menagerie run (you need to have a Rune in your Chalice so you can open the chest). I didn't buy it and I'm regretting it, I have to wait until next week for the chests and bounties to reset.
Cool, thanks for the info. It's weird that they let you play only one round of menagerie when the best way to upgrade the chalice is to play menagerie.
It's weird.
The quest gives you everything you need, but at the step you're at it doesn't obviously specify what you need to do to get that stuff.
I got stuck on that bit for an hour or two on the first day of the season.
A little mess up on Bungie's part, but nothing massive.
You only need 1000 of them. This part is super confusing. After about an hour of trying to figure it out I came here and there was a thread about it. I can’t remember now but you have go into triumphs and accept the 1-2 things in there. That gives you 1000 imperials. The. Go to menu and buy the only thing available in the lower right of your menu. Then you can access again. I think at some point you need to check with homeslice on the gold ship too.
This helped me so much. I had everything I needed but couldn't for the life of me figure out how to upgrade the chalice. Thankyou Guardian.
