The Analyst Part 1 - Getting to know the Tarkov Community w/ Survey Results - n=952

Discussion

Escapers,

Thanks to you I’ve gathered in few days 952 responses which helped me to know more about the Tarkov community. As promised I’m sharing the results with you.

You can find the graphs created by SurveyPlanet analytic tool here (I couldn’t get all the data for the Stash question into one snip, but you have access to the whole table below)

I don’t have much time to write this so I’m going to drop bullet points of the most important stuff to notice.

Part 2 is coming soon focusing much more on play style.

In Research, we account for a +/- 3% margin of error.

I’ve rounded up the stats.

I’ve assumed new players selected (1-3 months), my bad for not inserting a dedicated option for this.

General findings

  • To no surprise, we’re 99.3% of manly PMCs and only 0.7% Valkyries must bare our caprices. (That’s assuming we don’t have fraudulent in this sample pool. Keep in mind the 3% rule)
  • Having been around for pretty much 3 years, it is no surprise either that 65% of the player base is 23+ years old.
  • NA (58%) and Europe (35%) are dominating the player base. We have to keep in mind here that the survey has been released only on Reddit which is more popular in these regions than anywhere else. (Especially in the US – as of January 2017 Reddit has stated that 54% of their userbase came from the US.)
  • It is interesting to notice that the Account age is split into two. From new players, 1-3 months (24%) and old’ish players 1 year + (50%). One insight that we can pull from this is that learning curve might put off quite a sensible amount of people, however those who persist tend to stick around for quite a while which is positive. (There might be obvious other reasons too!)
  • We’re quite some heavy gamers too, almost 60% plays more than 6 hours per week. This leads me to think that in addition to stick around for quite some time, Tarkov is one of the main games played by the respondents.
  • Good mix of level and stash worth. Nothing really standout here.
  • To my surprise, a majority of players have chosen the USEC team – 72% - Personally, I don’t find anything as satisfying than spraying at someone while yelling in Russian.
  • If it was a survey looking at attitudes toward sex we’d be pretty boring as a majority of person rather play either solo or duo (combined at 81%)
  • Interchange is the favorite map (34%) followed by Custom (25%) the least “liked” map is “Wood” (6.7%) which I think is likely to change as if my memory serves me well, a new Scav boss is coming?

Crossed Data

  • Interestingly, new player (1-3 months) have chosen Custom as favorite map (30%)
  • Whereas, players that played from 1-2 years and more than 2 years have chosen Interchange, respectively 39% and 28%
  • We see a similar trend looking at level where players from 0-30 lvl have chosen Custom (0-10 at 32% - 11-20 at 37% and 21-30 at 32%)
  • Looking at Age vs Map. We see that the least popular maps among youngsters (18-22s and under 18s) are wood and factory.
  • Looking at older folks, 23-34s and 35-44, the favorite map is Interchange, respectively 37% and 45% whereas Factory is particularly hated with 5% and 3%.
  • Interestingly, the highest rate of people that’d rather play trio is amongst the 18-22s at 16% and the 45-54s at 18%.
  • Surprisingly too, the younger demographics are not the ones that should be considered Hardcore Gamers as the older demos at 45-54s is winning the rate with 12hours + at 36% whereas the Under 18 12h+ rate is at 22% and 22% also for 18-22s
  • Players from Asia are the biggest geek with 36% of them playing 12h and more.

Again, thank you all for your participation, stay tuned for Part 2.
