Chapter 00 - The Prologue

I knew I was different from the moment I could remember. My mom and dad always told me I was more mature for my age. I knew it too.

Where the other children desired to play simple games, I desired more. I liked to read, and interact with far more complex games. I could weave a tale, and impress even the adults.

More then once, I had retold a movie I recalled, and enthralled the class for an afternoon. Tales of heroes of villains in faraway lands.

I recalled with clarity, memories of another life. Yet it was always memories of books, and novels. Of films via movies or seasons. There was a lot of digital games as well.

I don’t ever recall another family. Another person. Another life.

—

After the easygoing period of primary education, we graduated to secondary school. It was here that simple play became games with more rigid rules, and expectations.

As a part of the unique education system, you were also entered the youth corps. Its purpose was to instill dignity, discipline, and responsibility.

The truth was more sinister. Its sole purpose was to train Hydra soldier from the ground up. We were only taught what was needed, and the rest was to be focused on how to be a proper soldier. Which in turn would lead to a better worker.

Secondary school had less time to horse around. We trained in the morning, and studied in the afternoon. The school uniform of fatigues, and air guns were distributed. It was apart of our lives to carry around a weapon.

Tests were more weighted towards military skills. It did define who you were, and your future.

Hydra only wanted soldiers. Citizens were a concern for the distant future.

—

After secondary education, came the conscription period. This was also known as First Service. Two years I served in the military. I was a simple rifleman in a fireteam. They would become my brother and sisters.

We drilled. We practiced with a variety of weapons. We favored energy guns since it was easier to haul around. They required less ammunition as we could recharge the weapons, or swap out battery packs.

Though maintenance became a daily ritual as constant care is a rule for energy guns.

Drills were the important tasks. We drilled for combat. Rescue missions. Reconnaissance. Teamwork.

Day in, day out.

—

After service is complete, you got discharged with honor.

From there the adult life was open to you. Avenues like tertiary education became available.

Specialization meant harder studies, but it was not mandatory. Many found jobs, and began life as an adult.

Or we were supposed to.

The flag of Hydra got raised high and proud as the Supreme Leader, Baron Zemo unveiled his crown Jewel. The Hydra Flying Fortress.

For six months we lived tall and proud.

Built by our hands, supported by our hearts. Hydra was a presence that echoed far and wide.

Brethren flocked to the island, bolstering our population by the millions. We were ready to bring order to the chaos that was ruining the world.

It was for this reason that I enrolled into the military. I conscription and joined the military like my mother and father. I was going to become an officer that would become a guiding force for the betterment of tomorrow.

Alas.

After six months of pride, our hopes shattered within 48 hours.

I had only seen snippets of information about the Avengers. Yet when I had seen them that day, I recognized them. Memories long since ignored flared to life.

I tried to resist them.

I stood by my brothers and sisters, but our simple weaponry could not even faze Hawkeye. A man who used a bow and arrow. A man who did more damage then my entire squad.

We lost everything. The Supreme Leader fled, taking along the majority of his loyalist.

We lost funding. Money we needed to upkeep the island.

We lost people. The supposed brothers and sisters vanished in droves.

We lost ourselves. My family was gone. Presumed KIA. Which I knew was true as the radar installation they were in had vanished, leaving only a crater.

Many of my fellow graduates were also KIA. Of my squad, only I made it out.

Alone, I graduated to a world of broken dreams.
