Grumps Garage Sale Goes Pear-Shaped On First Day; Second Day Cancelled
General recap -
- Even though they got over 800 RSPVs to this event, the staging went on as planned. The line was wrapped twice around the building at 8am. Brent apparently told someone that they only really expected 100 people to show up and planned for that.
- People were generally left out to bake in the hot California sun for two to five hours for the privilege of coming inside, where it was apparently not air conditioned. It was bad enough that they sent Vernon around with a jug of water so people wouldn't roast to death. Fans also passed around tubes of sunblock and sunscreen.
- Dan and Arin signed autographs for two hours and if you got in line after 7am, good luck meeting them. Ross and SuperMega were also there, but somewhat more unavailable. You had to buy something to get it autographed (something that they warned about in the promo video) but also culled the line even though people were in the middle of buying things to get them signed. According to witness testimony, the only consistently visible people during the event were Suzy and Vernon, who were there from start 'til the police shutdown.
- Prices and merch ranges were exactly the same as they were online/in everyone's various online stores, and aside from some various rare memorabilia (Arin's sonic dress; costumes from Ninja Sex Party videos), what was on display was generally described as 'junk'. They also sold games fans gave them. One fan actually saw that a game they gave them was on sale, and that they hadn't bothered to remove the personal note the person had left inside before selling it. (they weren't pissed about this and Ross was cool enough to say something about it, but it's still ngl).
- Organization and line maintenance was also described as 'extremely poor'.
- The line to come inside was capped by the police at 2PM.
- They Tweeted a couple of hours ago that due to overwhelming response/people buying whatever wasn't nailed down, the second day was cancelled.
- * People on Twitter above, in the Subreddit post about this, on Facebook and on Instagram are pissed, either because of how bad the experience was, because they were in the line after it was capped, or because they were planning on coming Sunday.
- People have been promised an 'even bigger event' to make up for this.
UPDATE: Arin posted a mea culpa of gratefulness on his Twitter, saying they underestimated their audience and explaining that they can't do the Sunday date because they "don't have a venue anymore" (IE: The state/city or venue shut them down because of the crowd size).
Suzy also posted Twice about the incident, once to declaim a fan who was mad that Arin was hiding in the back during the event, another to say that they're going to lose "a lot of money" by cancelling tomorrow. I didn't grab either of those Tweets; one has been supplied, but am looking for the second!
UPDATE 2: Apparently the event was closed down because they didn't file proper permits for crowd size.
UPDATE 3: Brent, being Brent, ignores everything and speaks up and tells everyone how proud he is of his team
