R5: Somehow the Byzantines have engulfed the entirety of the middle east, balkans, and the southern caucuses in when I wasn't paying attention to Asia.
AS IT SHOULD BE.
Sorry, the only Byzantium I recognize is the one pawning it’s Crown Jewels for Venetian handouts.
Venice is history's greatest ingrate.
Rome conquers through extremely barbaric genocidal advances: oh wow they’re cool people
Merchants use merchant gold to break apart the decayed ruins of a dying empire: wow they’re the worst
...
Turks finish that decaying empire off and effectively rebuild it to be the strongest empire of their time: endless whining 600 years later
(Also they brought it on themselves when they slaughtered all the Latins in their city. Why piss off people stronger than you with mass killings? Tell me how that’s different from what genghis did to Persia? Oh right because Persia just behead a few emissaries while Rome slaughtered thousands. Also genghis genocided across Persia whole venice merely broke up some shit empire.)
(Also they brought it on themselves when they slaughtered all the Latins in their city. Why piss off people stronger than you with mass killings?
Wrong.
There were no Venetians in the city
They had been kicked out years ago.
Venice benefited because their rivals got kicked out during the 'purge', which was more 'a handful of latins got hurt because they sided with the losing side of a civil war'. Hell, most of the guys supporting the new Emperor were his German bodyguards. It wasn't a nationalistic 'REMOVE LATIN!'
Enrico Dandolo’s actions make more sense if you buy the theory he was one of the victims.
Maybe don’t blind their merchants, promise to pay for their help retaking the throne, and renege
Byzantium: the epic heroes who got owned by blind octogenarian.
A usurper promised shit he didn't have to remove another usurper who's inaction is breathtaking. 20 years of pathetic aristocratic intrigue isn't representative of the Komnenos or Makedon dynasties.
The point is Venice very probably would've been irrelevant if it wasn't for the custodianship and preferential access to most valuable market in Europe that the Byzantine's gave them for half a millennium.
The Byzantine mosaics in Venice weren't taken in that so-called 'crusade'.
There is 0 evidence that they ever blinded Dandolo.

Byzantines just make me wet BB.
He must of struck when the Caliph wasn't looking.
Good.
Bad.
Byzantium mixed up being Rome with being Persia
They‘re missing Egypt if they want to go full Achaimenid
All of the Middle East was under a giant Seljuk Caliphate, and the Caliph got too decadent and exploded, letting the Byzantines sweep in
Is there any way that can last though? One weak ruler and they're gonna pop.
I really want to know what happend? Got Byzantium inherit by a Child of Destiny? because that looks like they invaded the Abbasids and called it a day.
After you break the Abassids, all that's left is Holy War after Holy War on the disorganised remains. Usually your vassals are willing to do it for you.
The true Byzantine empire
Justinian's wet dream.
Second rate Rome not under rightful Eastern Roman Empire control.
2/10 Justinians.

This is one fucking p e a k byzantium

Where’s the rebellion
How to fix The Middle East.
☦️☦️☦️Islam is gone☦️☦️☦️
But in all likelihood the vast cultural differences would had resulted in some heretical branch of Christianity. Remember the Catholic vs Protestant wars are pretty brutal. As are OTL Sunni vs Shia conflicts.
So the Middle East could go 100% Christian but new heretical branches would likely pop up and then hate each other.
Reformation Wars 2: Electric Boogaloo
Why have one massive schism when you can have 2?
Hard not to imagine some kind of iconoclastic reiteration. What I really wonder is what would happen to the Kaaba.

Islam would still exist regardless. Borders can change but belief is in the heart that can’t be changed.
It’s just a joke habibi
Tell that to Zoroastrianism in most regions of Iran
That religion still exists
Yes. Less than 500.000 spread out around the entire globe. Less than 20.000 in its homeland Iran. They arent a majority anywhere in the World. So as a political factor in the sense of a game like CK2, they basically dont exist anymore. Mr Marcus argued that belief cant really be changed, since most descendants of the Zoroastrians are Muslims and most European Pagans of old are now either Christians or atheistic, that statement is like, really wrong.
Barely
mm, maybe to begin with. You can absolutely remove religions from provinces though.
How comes that Islam became almost a sole religion in the middle east if people don't change their beliefs?
Until the 13th or 14th century, majority of people in Egypt, Palestine and Levant were Christian.
