Superlux HD668b sounds too quiet

Help Request

I received them today and i think they sound way too quiet compaired to my old cheap headset at 100% volume both on windows and chrome (youtube). Maybe there's some configuration i need to do? I'm using windows 10.

Do you have an amp you are using or just running them off your mobo sound card?

I'm running them off my motherboard sound card.

You may need to get a dac/amp or a better sound card. The internal one that comes with your motherboard may not be able to power the drivers in the headphones. At least that's what the problem sounds like to me.

Any suggestions for a good and cheap amp?

Impedance is supposed to be 56 Ohms on these, any properly functioning motherboard should be able to drive them to levels too loud for safe listening. They can go past comfortable listening on any device I've ever attached them to.

2Shae, have you tested them against any other output, like plug them into your phone?

I did plug them on my phone, it's around the same level as my PC.

They take more power than your usual headphone. If you have a cheap motherboard it won’t drive them. That’s normal. They are my second most power hungry headphone right after the dt 770 250 Ohm. A cheap dac/amp like the fxaudio x6 would improve sound quality dramatically. I also recommend you to put some brainwavz non xl round pads on them and one peace of toilet paper between the drive and the foam. The pads increase soundstage and make them insanely comfortable. The toilet paper is there to increase bass and get rid of the Sibilance. It’s an investment but worth it.

But isn't 56 ohms low enough?

It isn’t just about the ohms. Another important factor is the efficiency. The hd 668b just isn’t very efficient.

Alright dude, it's just that i've researched the hd668b's extensively before buying them and no where did I see that they require an amp, just that they sound a bit better with one but in my case they're unusable especially for gaming.
