Isn't Big Knife Wide Axe called Huntsman?

25
MattiatorOPTeam Jester | Kilobots•

I though that the same (and have seen it referred to as such) but didn't have any confirmation, so I erred on the side of caution and stuck with the literal translation. It'll probably be changed in the next version

8
ElectricNedDragon King | KOB 2 - Nebula | Motorama 05•

They counted it as a Chinese bot and team because they needed X number of Chinese bots- the only justification being that the builder's wife is Chinese. The builder is Australian. I imagine they took the liberty of renaming his bot as well.

3
Okamifan1Counter Revolution was actually a pretty good bot.•

Lol sneaky sneaky.

1
dkero4•

That's its English name. Its Chinese name is a proverb "to swing with a big blade", which means to be decisive. But we translate it to "Big Arse Axe".

8
PhilKenSandman•

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is Huntsman.

I still maintain that Grill Judge was a Vastly superior name for a robot

12
SmarkieMark•

I haven't watched TiFR yet, did that turn into 2BBQ?

2
klyskada🅺🅵🅲 🆆🅸🆃🅽🅴🆂🆂 🅿🆁🅾🆃🅴🅲🆃🅸🅾🅽•

According to the builder, it was always called 2BBQ but on Reddit we had been calling it Grill Judge incorrectly and now it's way to easy to accidentally call it the wrong thing.

8
SmarkieMark•

Don't you dare say that Peerless Zhuge has any other name.

I believe I can fill in the four unknown bots:

1 is "Deep-Sea Shark".

2, I'm not too sure how to translate it. It's a cartoon character in China, but doesn't have an English name.

3 is more or less just "Carp", and 4 is "Harvester".

Tuzi is actually named "Rabbit Ball".

9
MattiatorOPTeam Jester | Kilobots•

I've seen Rabbit Ball called "Tuzi" almost everywhere and it seems to be the universally accepted English name, not sure where it comes from. I've gotten confirmation from several sources now that that's Deep Sea Shark, so that'll be changed. Thank you!

3
CripplingDream•

"Tuzi" means "rabbit" in Chinese.

1
IronardPush it, to the MAX.•

Wait, didn't Broken Edge compete as Greedy Snake (paint scheme and everything) at the exhibition matches a few months back?

7
ausdaGotta do BETA than that!•

I can only think this is like a whyatchi job where a team has split to field two bots but I've checked the chassis sides and bolt placement from [this picture,] (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/king-of-bots/images/c/c8/Snake_2.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20190123185333) it's a perfect match to broken edge minus the small fork wedges yet it's the greedy snake colour scheme. This isn't a new thing however I think [2bbq] (https://imgur.com/EIOOFDH) had two bots, the other being [alternate mix.] (https://imgur.com/s1IShxU)

3
nawvayCaptain Shrederator & Shrederator Tiger Claw | Battlebots & KOB•

yes. it is a recycled bot in order to fill Chinese spots needed

3
Jaycheow•

Yeah thats what i thought too. Genuinely confused now.

1
MattiatorOPTeam Jester | Kilobots•

I did this for the fight cards last season, but here's a VERY EARLY reference card with the 48 revealed and confirmed robots for King of Bots 2 (AKA "Super King of Bots). Names are for the most part literal translations, except where teams have previously confirmed English names. Thanks to Tai on the OOTA discord for his great work translating most of these as soon as they came out. Four robots on the list (marked in red) are currently untranslated, and will be added when I update the list, hopefully with more competitors!

6
SmarkieMark•

I appreciate it. I particularly like "Hold Me Back." I suggest we continue calling it that even if a more accurate translation surfaces.

God some of these are just blatant rip offs of existing bots

Top right corner is Hammerhead Shark. It may not look like one, but It’s from the same team.

5
SLAVICGAMER•

These bots are so unoriginal that 4 of them have the same name!

5
PreFuturism-0BattlesBot - AR 500 Step•

I don't know any Mandarin, but I think 'Sabre' should be 'Saber'. There are Saber command spell marks on the robot. Yes, it's a petty issue.

This line-up looks good to me. I don't care that there are very similar robots together as forced diversity can get in the way of a proper competition. Syringe, Ground Dragon, and Broken Edge are particularly appealing to me, with the latter looking like something from a retro arcade game.

4
FryGuy1013Kingpin, V for Victory | BattleBots, RoboGames•

Not sure why you've been downvoted. Normally saber is just the American English spelling vs the British English spelling Sabre.. So wouldn't technically be wrong, but since it's a name with an established English spelling, it's meant to use the name as given rather than localized spelling.

4
PreFuturism-0BattlesBot - AR 500 Step•

'Sabre' just looks like an annoying typo in American English. It's a bigger change than an S rather than a Z or there being a U. I can understand why adjustments have been made from British English as it can be inconsistent. I say that as an Englishman. Downvoters will just have to miss out on r/saber.

1
MattiatorOPTeam Jester | Kilobots•

This was actually a mistake on my part. The robot was named after an anime character, and should have been spelled as "Saber". It has been fixed for the next version of the reference card. Thanks for catching that.

You are close, but some have different english names or translations.

1st row, 3rd in = Huntsman or "Big Arse Axe"

1st Row, 4th in = Basket ball themed, so the name should reflect that.

3rd Row, 2nd in = We called it The Doctor

4th Row, 4th in = Deep Sea Shark

5th Row, 3rd in = Named after a japanese cartoon cat with no ears

9th row, 2nd in = Hamster Ball

10th row, 2nd in = Bronze Age

10th row, 4th in = Iron Cock (yes, it's true. That's how it is was referred to. Lots of giggling)

11th row, 3rd in = To the future

12th row, 4th in = Bullseye. There was a international team who wanted to use the same name and was forced to change.

3
MattiatorOPTeam Jester | Kilobots•

Thank you! I've changed the first one to Huntsman, after confirmation from several people now. Also confirmed Deep Sea Shark. 5th row 3rd column I've got tentatively labeled as just "Doraemon", as that's typically what people call the character in English. Tuzi/Rabbit Ball/Hamster Ball I'm still debating, since Tuzi seems to be the de-facto English name for it in the groups I frequent even if Rabbit/Hamster Ball is a much more direct translation. I'm hesitant to go with Iron Cock, not just for the giggle factor, but because several English sites already refer to it as Iron Rooster following its appearance at KOB Opening 2019. Call it a localization change maybe. I've changed Sniper to Bullseye based on that information, very interesting! I wonder which international bot wanted the name Bullseye?

Is that a Doraemon reference? The time-traveling cat robot? It was a huge kids show for years and year and the color scheme seems to match.

My guesses for the 4 unknowns would be:

- Deep sea giant shark

- little bells blowing in the wind

- fathead carp

- reaper

Bullfighter out here making sure to keep it subtle what robot they're ripping off inspired by through making the name definitely not related to another well known line of flippers and their livestock-combat related names.

Is snake gonna be a front hinged lifter still?

1

Snake is both a front hinged and rear lifter combined. It's a very clever mechanism that allows them to do both.
