I am looking to get a heart rate monitor, can I get some help with this?

I have been running for about 3 years now, three marathons multiple other smaller races. I have been wanting to get a heart monitor for awhile to assist workouts but I am not sure exactly how to go about picking the right one. There seems to be loads of different types for different specific uses. I feel like a small fish in a sea of options. (sorry that was a totally lame way of putting it.)

I bicycle ride and use sigma onyx. Not deliberately advertising this site.

It is basic model: time, AHR, cal burned, has max and min setting. 2-buttons. The reason I bought it was because both batteries are user replaceable. It is the only HRM I found that the batteries can be replaced by the user.

I have a hairy chest and the Sigma HRM never has a problem picking up a heart rate. I would think this would also work for running.

I'm also pretty hairy and my Sigma would work only after I'd worked up a bit of sweat or if I licked the contacts. Once it was connected it worked fine. Now it's dead... boo.
