The NYC E-Prix is a hugely disappointing motorsports fan experience.

Note: I'm specifically referring to the in-person experience, not the race itself or Formula E in general.

As a motorsports fan, you couldn't pay me to go to another one of these things. The ONLY place they had to watch the race for non-grandstand entrants was a small glimpse at the back straight, about 12 feet back from the track wall with absolutely dismal viewing angles. This being the only actual window to watch the action meant it was already packed. Almost 90% of the other real estate around the track itself was blocked off from ANY access, allowing only a small section of the track to be visible AT ALL (even for grandstand seats). The over-the-track walkways and other possible track viewing locations were blocked off completely and purposefully by huge black tarps that disallowed spectating from virtually all angles. And track marshals were quick to tell you to move off the stairs and gangways, which invariably offered the best viewing angles.

For a motorsports series with almost no following in the US (hell, Formula 1 isn't even popular here), you'd expect the barrier for entry to be WAY lower than the absolutely insane $160 grandstand ticket prices. The two options for viewing the grand prix were either a $12 E village ticket or a $160 grandstand bench. Myself, my friends, and dozens of other fans at the race were dumbfounded by the lack of options to actually watch the race.

If the TV screens set up around the pavallion are the best option for watching the race, for someone who's ACTUALLY AT THE RACE... YOU HAVE FUCKED UP.
