Starting out severe asthmatic

Hi I bought a clarinet yesterday and am wondering how long it can take to find the sweet spot which produces a sound.

Also I'm a severe asthmatic uncontrolled and steroid dependent, I've managed to toot a note or two but am wondering how much resistance there should be.
