Moral implications of using a 3rd party basemesh for a piece to be entered into a competition -Perspectives appreciated

Hey folks, so I'm collaborating on a set of fantasy characters (to be 3D printed and painted) for a competition. My role is to model the human characters. Considering my current jobby-job workload, time is of the essence and I am considering using basemeshes (male and female) purchased on Cubebrush.com.

I am torn however as to the legitimacy of using someone else's basemesh. While I will be stylizing the characters, modifying their build/physique, posing, characterizing the faces, and adding clothes, there is a part of me that isn't comfortable with using a 3rd party mesh. However, there is another part that wants to not complicate matters.

I have made a half a dozen male basemeshes over the years, that I have used before, but their topology isn't great. Additionally I have not made a female basemesh.

Were this for production work, I wouldn't have a problem with using premade meshes. However, I am on the fence when it comes to assets for a competition.

Thank you for you perspectives.

would need to know the specifics of the competition. if they specify it must be all original work, then of course using a 3rd party base mesh would be wrong. But if that's not a requirement, I'd say it's fine, as long as you're not submitting it as purchased without any customization and modification (which of course you aren't).

Excellent point, thank you. I'm going to contact the organizers of the competition. I'll bet there is a 100% original requirement, which is fine. I really should work on my topology anyway.
