Baby Hedgehog Posts
Hey, everyone!
Recently, there have been a few posts featuring our favorite baby spiky pickles.
While everyone loves these posts, not many people know about the risks behind hedgehog babies and what accidentally stressing out the mother can do. There are many users on this sub that may not be experienced with the handling and care of baby hedgehogs and we want to prevent the distribution of misinformation.
In order to prevent misunderstanding/miscommunication, please use the new Baby Hedgie post flair and tag a moderator in the comments. Posts will receive a new mod distinguished disclaimer to be done by one of the mods; the comment is shown below:
Disclaimer: As cute as this post is, it does not condone handling a baby hedgehog without experience. It is highly recommended by this sub that baby hedgehogs only be held by experienced individuals and/or breeders who have a strong relationship with the mother. There are many risks to holding a baby hedgehog before the mother is ready. To mitigate this risk and to ensure the health of the babies and the mother, please be responsible and contact a licensed professional if you need assistance with handling or caring for a baby hedgehog. Thank you.
I hope in the future to have this automated when I have some spare time but until then, as a temporary rule - for the first month, we’ll be fairly lenient but any post featuring a baby hedgehog without both the flair and the mod tag in the comments will be removed to prevent misconceptions from spreading.
Since this community is open to everyone, we want to make sure that we are spreading good information and that everyone is happy and healthy with their little ouch mouses. :)
Thank you, everyone! Please comment below if you have any questions or comments. As always, we’re open to suggestions so please let us know your thoughts!
Edit: Just some clarification: Thank you all for using the Baby Hedgie flair lately! I’ve noticed many users embracing the flair and I really appreciate you all helping our community come together!
Just a heads up that the flair is only for babies of a worrisome age. If they’re old enough to come home with you, then don’t use it as it doesn’t apply. :) Feel free to use the OC flair tag instead.
Edit Two: The flair and mod disclaimer is required even if the breeder is holding the baby, any posts not using either will be issued a warning. Any users not following the rule after being issued a warning will have their post removed. We want to ensure that everyone is being safe.
Edit Three: To help streamline things, I’ve created a mod-issued Breeder user flair. If you are an official breeder, please send verification to one of the mods or through modmail and I’ll issue the flair for you. Thank you!
