Based on the statistics, I think it's more probable for me to hit a car during the road trip between my home and ski area, than a chairlift incident. Yet I can't stop thinking about falling from the lift every time I ride.
Yea, or an accident on the way down the hill. The chairlift is probably the safest place you’ll be all day except maybe the lodge.

I was there last week and someone with me called it quits because the lifts were rocking so much. They closed the last lift within 20 minutes of that though so I don’t think we were in danger
Omg the chair fell off too!
at least it looks like a fairly short drop, relatively speaking. i've been on some lifts that are 3-4 times higher and would've resulted in a much worse aftermath
Easy lawsuit free money.
Straya. We don't tend to pull that shit, it kinda fucks up society for everyone.
He suffered minor bruising. What are you going tomato sue for mental anguish?
🍅
Yes. I don't know about this guy but if I had a season pass I'd want it refunded because I probably wouldn't go back that season. Any damage to his gear? If there was so much a ding in an edge he should be demanding replacement. And while he may only have bruises after a fall like that he likely still had to go to the er for x-rays to make sure there were no internal injuries. Plus some injuries might not be obvious right away like whiplash which he may start getting pain from a few days later. In addition lawsuits keep businesses honest. This was clearly the result of a fuck up somewhere and whoever is responsible needs to be held accountable so this doesn't happen again. Consulting with a lawyer after an accident like this is never a bad idea.
FYI, medical costs aren't an issue in Australia.
Medical care tends to have cost beyond just the bill. Time off work, missed appointments, child care, pet care etc all have to be taken in to account when someone has unexpected medical treatment and they can add up easily.

Yeah so let’s just put this out there right now - chairs do not simply fall off - this is a detachable quad, meaning the chair has a grip the attaches and detaches from the line. The only way this possibly fell off was because grip was not on properly. End of story. I seriously hope old mate is ok, just have been SO scary for him. Lifetime pass in order
It's a spring mechanism right? Could be metal fatigue
It’s is, however it’s less likely to be fatigue with regards to the spring than it is an error in the re attachment onto the line OR an issue with the actual attachment mechanism.
Spring force is measured every time a grip passes through a terminal, with a low value giving a fault that will stop the lift. Would probably have to have caused a whole bunch of stops that were ignored.

Yeah look... iced up shivs? Malfunction of grip? It happens but I spose they have to lie to cover their ass

Yeah look at least it wasn’t some crazy run away lift situation, that would be a nightmare.
If the chair were to contact something after being swung by the wind I would believe it.

Sheave
Me too! When where you there?
Who's the manufacturer? The reason I ask is Sun Valley cheaped out and went with Yan back in the late 80s. After an accident in Europe, iirc, they replaced 5 or 7 Yans with Doppelmayrs, which probably cost them millions. IIRC, it was an issue with a chair grip.

Exactly. This is far from a freak gust of wind.
